5th Edition Issues

The fifth edition of the Weather Satellite Handbook came out in 1996 and, based on a lack of feedback, was apparently pretty clean with respect to typos and other errors. However, if readers spot anything, let me know and I will post the "fix" here.

New Software Options

The original WSHFax software (now available in Version 1.5) was designed to work with the most basic VGA-equipped computers and this could not take advantage of all of the image quality the WSH Interface could provide. Check out the WSH Software Download page to see what can be accomplished with the interface when the software is upgraded!

Hamtronics R139 Receiver

I am partial to this receiver for several reasons:

I have some very interesting projects on the bench built around this receiver, so stay tuned....

R2FX Weather Satellite Receiver

This receiver is designed and built in Germany and reflects what you might expect with that pedigree. Moderately-priced, excellent performance, very resistant to interference, the lates frequencies are programmed in, and all six frequencies can be changed via a simple serial link to your computer. This one deserves a look!

New Frequencies for the WEPIX-2000B

The launch of NOAA-18 introduced two new frequencies to our old standards. New crystals will do for the R139 and simple programming will fix the job for the R2FX, but what about the Vanguard WEPIX-2000B? Well, help is available in the form of new EPROMS that leave out the unused Soviet-era frequencies and substitute the new APT channels. New EPROMS are available for $15.00 (post-paid) from:
