The Gumbo Limbo Preserve in Delray Beach, Florida, provides an excellent opportunity to observe different examples of coastal Florida vegetation from a complex of wooden walkways that traverse different parts of the reserve. A 2006 visit to Delray Beach provided the opportunity to take some stereoviews using my Van Ekeren digital twin rig.

As you leave the visitor center and indoor exhibit area, you can take the walkway in either direction. Here it starts with a relatively upland setting.

If you climb the observation tower, you get a unique perspective on the forest below.

The jungle-like forest was battered by several hurricanes the previous season, but was already starting to recover.

This perspective suggests the trials that the earliest settlers must have had in moving through this kind of vegetation.

These mangrove roots would provide very difficult footing if you had to explore the forest without benefit of the walkway!
