American Orchid Society Headquarters

Delray Beach, Florida

I am a member of the American Orchid Society and, when my wife Alison and I visit Delray Beach, Florida, we never fail to drop by their headquarters. The complex includes the administration building, a conservatory, and landscaped grounds. When we visited in 2006, Delray Beach had suffered under one of the worst string of storms during the previous hurricane season. Despite the fact that the grounds were still recovering, I could resist takings some stereoviews with my Van Ekeren twin rig.

I like to photograph scenes with an interplay of foliage, moss-covered rocks, and other features. This artificial stream and pool is in the conservatory.

As you round the corner coming into the conservatory, you can see the picture window that looks into the research greenhouse.

I managed to get Alison to pose with one of the pretty conservatory waterfalls as a backdrop. Falling water is a sure-fire test for camera synchronization in a twi-camera rig and the Van Ekeren twins always pass with flying colors.

A fine Cattleya-alliance multi-generic hybrid is one of hundreds of orchid plants on display in the conservatory.

An outdoor pond with a fountain integrated into the rock wall in the background. The splashing water is no challenge for the Van Ekeren camera system

The grounds had taken a real beating from the storms of the previous hurricane season, but they were bouncing back, as shown by the new growth on this Cyathea tree fern.
