The ROMScanner was the only NBTV project that I had time to fit into the first edition of the Image Communication Handbook. It is a compact NBTV image source that produces pictures based on four image files programmed into a single EPROM chip. Here are the various pages I have created to support the ROMScanner project:
This link will let you download a complete construction documentation package for the ROMScanner project in Acrobat PDF format. The package includes circuit diagrams, component lists, PC-board layout diagrams, construction notes, and alignment instructions.
This page has links to the programming software along with plenty of information on formatting pictures for programming into EPROM.
Chris Lewis of the Narrow-bandwidth Television Association published an excellent page on the club website that detailed how to use Adobe PhotoshopTM to prepare ROMScanner image files. He needed to remove the page to free up space on the server and asked if I would be interested in hosting the material here. I was more than pleased to do so to insure that the information would continue to be available.
There are two fundamental options available for construction of an NBTV image generator - the ICH ROMScanner and the latest EPROM picture generator from Grant Dixon. Both work extremely well and this page is designed to provide enough information to help you make a choice in terms of your first construction project.
