Please visit Ralph's site for construction details and software. You will see Ralph's page where he describes the operation of the DOS editing software program. This takes 4 .BMP images suitably formatted into the 160 pixels (wide) by 240 pixels (high) and adds the synch pulse which produces a binary file ready to burn into an EPROM. I am going to describe my PhotoShop pro experience in which I found easier than paint and the PhotoShop editor utilities supplied on a standard PC.

Whilst normally relatively expensive you can often find a computer magazine with a 30 day trial version on one of the cover disks. First of all we need to find an image, we can either scan an image in to our PC, search the WEB, or from images downloaded from a digital camera. Due to limited aspect ratio and resolution of NBTV images peoples faces make the most suitable subjects.

Please note Ralph's software is freeware, so you are free to use it or distribute it to others. However , the software is protected by copyright so it cannot be sold on or bundled into packages without Ralph's written permission. Please support Ralph's work and purchase this excellent book.
 

1. Open PhotoShop pro and open the image you wish to use.make any colour adjustments, if required to improve picture contrast.

2. If the image needs trimming to remove pieces of the picture use the rectangle 'elastic band' ( third ICON in second row ) to highlight the area to be selected

3. Use the 'copy' command to save this image.

4. Click on the X on the image window to close original picture down

5. Using the 'paste' command open the 'cropped image'.

6. Select the rotate ICON. Rotate the image by 90 degrees.

7. Using the size command resize the image to 160 pixels (wide) by 240 pixels (high). Note PhotoShop pro remembers this for subsequent images.

8. Select colour and select grey scale. This will remove the colour information from the image.

.9. Finally save as a .BMP image in the directory containing the EPROM creating software. See link below for downloading the software to produce .bin file for loading into EPROM.

10. Repeat for the remaining three images for the EPROM.
