Any significant construction activity is out of bounds
in our slot in the Chapter 55 EAA hangar at Jewitt Field in Mason, As a
result, Don suggested that we use his garage to the the airframe to the
point where we could move the airframe to the hangar.
I have to say we were very pleased with the results of anodizing the airframe components. The finish was first-rate, all the various pieces came out with a perfectly uniform appearance, and there was no need to worry about handing the components. Basic triangulation of the keel, mast, and seat braces went very quickly, followed by the assembly of the gear legs.
The chromoly drag struts could not be anodized, so we had to make a decision with respect to finishing. The answer was to paint the struts to match the rest of the airframe. Aluminum Rust-Oleum "Professional" High Performance Enamel (#7515) provided an excellent match. We decided to take a few days off to let the finish on the struts harden-up prior to getting the frame up on the gear.
