Ultralight Gyro Competition
Regional and national competitions have long been a feature of ultralight activities, not to mention the international Microlight scene. It seems to me that there are two questions that have to be answered with respect to setting up a competitive system for ultralight gyroplanes:
Do we want or need to compete? Competition seems to go along with human nature - get two cavemen together in their dugout canoes and pretty soon they are racing! So, first issue - do we want to set up some competitive events? If there is no strong support for the concept, it makes very little sense to invest the time to create the events and the rules to govern them. I would appreciate some opinions on that score.
What kind of events? If we elect to have competitive events, we will need to decide what they will be. Tasks such as times cross-countries, spot landing, bomb drop, and perhaps slow flight some to mind, but, assuming we answer the first question in the affirmative, we will also need feedback on the events themselves.
We have some time prior to next season, so let's knock it around!
